Satisfy Food Rescue Receives National Recognition for COVID-19 Response

We are thrilled to share that Satisfy Food Rescue has received an official recognition award from the Prime Minister for our role in supporting New Zealand's national response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This acknowledgment is a testament to the hard work and unwavering dedication of our staff, and volunteers, who stood as an essential service during a time of great uncertainty.

As New Zealand entered lockdown, food insecurity surged, and ensuring that edible food didn’t end up in landfill became more important than ever. At Satisfy, we understood the vital role we played in keeping communities fed and healthy.

With supermarkets and food donors facing disruptions to their usual operations, our team worked tirelessly to rescue and redistribute as much surplus food as possible, ensuring it reached the people who needed it most.

Through lockdowns and logistical challenges, our volunteers and staff stepped up to meet the increased demand. While many organisations had to pause or limit their services, we continued to collect food from supermarkets, producers, and suppliers, distributing it to food banks. In doing so, we not only helped alleviate hunger but also prevented an enormous amount of perfectly good food from ending up in landfill.

This recognition from the Prime Minister’s office has blown us away. We are immensely proud of what we achieved together, knowing that every hour of work contributed to the wellbeing of our communities. While it was a challenging time for everyone, the solidarity, commitment, and resilience shown by our team were nothing short of extraordinary.

As we look back, this award serves as a powerful reminder of the difference we can make when we come together. We are humbled and motivated to continue our mission, ensuring that no edible food goes to waste while making a real impact on climate change and food security.

Thank you to all our volunteers, staff, and food donors for helping us to support our community through the COVID-19 crisis during this critical time. You are the reason for this incredible recognition, and we share this honour with all of you.

Together, we will continue to rescue food, support our communities, and create a more sustainable future.
